Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern is the current Prime Minister of New Zealand, and has been in public service since 2008.
She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mount Albert since March 2017, and was elected to the House of Representatives as a list MP in 2008.

She describes herself as a social democrat, a progressive and a feminist and her administration has been focused mainly on eradicating child poverty and social inequality.
She regards capitalism a “blatant failure” for failing to solve several problems in our capitalistic societies including poverty, child poverty, and homelessness.
She is also the second elected head of government to have given birth while in office, only after Benazir Bhutto, who gave birth while she was the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 1990.
She made history when she brought her baby daughter Neve to the United Nations.
